The work leading to the implementation of the 1st National Census in Psychology and the presentation of the initial report, is a corollary of a process initiated in November 2012, when defined within the transformation strategy of the Faculty of Psychology at the University of the Republic, the need to address that purpose. This showed from the beginning a triple condition: i) conduct a proper census survey that would allow mapping of professional human capacities referred to psychology in the country; ii) that this task will enable the basis for the installation of a National Observatory of Psychology; iii) that the Census challenge, will encourage experimentation and promotion of training from psychology in Uruguay, to study medium and large populations.
The results speak for themselves. This report notes that 7543 (77.1%) of the psychologists included in the census universe participated in this initiative. At the same time, 445 psychologists graduates in the country who are living abroad were surveyed. The quantity and quality of responses provides the basis for a sustained line of research and monitoring in the field.
We have reached the initial purposes. While production of knowledge has been supported by public funding, it's we provide to the entire public and the academic community in particular, direct access to this first report and database to allow them to continue analyzing new paths for training and professional practice of psychology.
